The MkI is dead. The Marquis is dead. Long live the De Sade!
The De Sade Fuzz is an old school fuzz box based on the first version Tone Bender, commonly known as the MkI.
This germanium fuzz produces a sound rich in harmonics and upper mid frequency punch, giving a fantastic, cutting push.
The 'Sore' and 'Soar' controls are highly interactive, allowing you to get sounds from gated, velcro splutter, up to a hugely sustaining, powerful kick in the guts that will not get lost in the mix. This range has been further expanded from the Marquis, while retaining all the original characteristics that made the Marquis, and the original MkI Tone Bender such a great fuzz.
While based on an almost 50 year old vintage design, the De Sade Fuzz benefits from some new enhancements. Using NPN germanium transistors in a modern style negative ground circuit means it plays nice with your other pedals and any 9V (Boss style) power supply. Use of shielded cable, RF and power filtering, and individually tested and auditioned transistors ensures minimum idle noise.
Each De Sade Fuzz is individually hand built on tag board into a ridiculously durable powder coated enclosure, printed with a raised UV cured ink. All carried out by small local businesses.

- Three hand picked and tested NOS germanium NPN transistors - Two Mil-Spec CV7351 and one 2N1304 that isn't marked as CV (Mil-spec) but was sourced from the old underground navy bunker at Copenacre and were tested.
- Power from 9V battery or Boss style centre negative power supply
'More' control dictates the output level, or volume of the pedal.
'Sore' controls a special je ne sais quoi, which I think of as being its "push".
'Soar' control is similar to the oroginal MkI Tone Bender's 'Attack' control. Dial this down as well as your guitar's volume control for a more gated, splatty fuzz verging on velcro. Dial up to noon for a more full and rich fuzz, then right up for sizzle and burn.
Both controls are very interactive and have had their tonal range expanded from the Marquis, purely by careful selection of transistors.
